Makey Makey Music – Don’t know what a “Makey Makey” is??  Check it out here.  We take the Makey Makey, PlayDoh and even Bananas, and use Scratch coding to make our own music and sound effects AND record those “cool beats”!  Sounds like fun right?

Fairy Tale Fun In this course students will explore fairy tales and complete engineering projects related to them! Students will read two or three family friendly fairy tales. After we read a fairy tale together, students will imagine, plan and create designs based on a specific fairy tale. Students will collaborate with one another to create an item for a character in a fairy tale. They will use their creative skills and imagination! Students will create a candy storage container for Hansel and Gretel, a cleaning tool for Cinderella, and a house for the Three Little Pigs. Students will have the opportunity to take these items home with them!

Bugging Out Over Insects – This course is about becoming more familiar with the wonderful world of insects. We will learn about insect habitat, insect jobs, and how to catch and observe different insect species. Students will have a better idea of how insects play a role in our ecosystem, especially the scary, stinging ones. Students will also be able to make connections on bug adaptations and how they fill niches in the ecosystem.
Note:  This is a “place-based” course .  Students will need to be delivered to the address listed below. Parents are welcome to stay and participate during the lesson!

Introduction to the Microbit– The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that introduces you to how software and hardware work together. It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, let it interact with you and your world. We will spend our time learning how to program the microbit to say our name, play music, and basically have a fun time playing and learning!

Light up your Rainbow – Come explore the world of light and colors. We will use hands-on activities to discover interactions between light and color. We will create an art piece showcasing light.  Students will use observation skills to explore light and color.

Zookeeper for a Day! – This ones going to be a good one!  Students will learn about and interact with various animals that are in the Jefferson Middle School Zoo including chickens, fish, snakes, rodents, turtles, and more. The students will learn how to care for the animals while also learning about their natural habitat and behaviors.
