First Lego League Robotics is the most recognized competitive global STEM education initiative. Guided by adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams are asked to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy and are challenged to develop a solution. They must then design, build and program a robot built of LEGOs, then compete on a table-top playing field. During the 2017/2018 school year, the STEM Alliance and Columbia Public Schools used funding from the 3M Foundation to launch teams in half of the elementary and middle schools across Columbia!
This year, teams will be extended into each elementary and middle school in Columbia. The CSA would use extra funding to establish Columbia as a regional First Lego League “hub” by hosting local team competitions and sponsoring annual FLL regional competitions.
